Last night I was think of the first reaction of Adam and Eve upon receiving the knowledge of good and evil is to become ashamed of their nakedness, at least according to the Judeo-Christian tradition. Infants, children, and certain cultures of course have no shame with nudity. Does this mean that as a child grows up, society forces original sin and its consequences on him? Is original sin something not born into, but learned?
Hi my dear Kolya, Thanks so much for joining Soul Hang Out by the way. Welcome, It is an honor to have your first post, It is an honor especially because you place a very profound question,, and I thank you for that. I can only give you my perception about it and you can discern what is the answer for you, I think being told to be ashamed of being naked sounds more like the language and message of a control frick dictator than God. I think there is deep meaning in the scriptures that has been manipulated to create the illusion of separation and the need to compete with each other instead of cooperate.
I am convinced it is not the road map our soul has crafted for us. It seems like a very crazy God, Gives us free will and then punishes us for taking it. This is a subject for a long conversation... I am so glad you are here. I look forward to more of your writing and questions. A big hug
Sarah Ban Breathnach said, "Consider this: what if 'original sin' is denying instead of celebrating your originality? Each of us posseses an exquisite, extraordinary gift: the opportunity to give expression to Divinity on earth through our everyday lives. When we choose to honor this priceless gift, we participlate in the recreation of the world."
I believe sin is a societal construct. Religions cling tightly to their narratives--many refusing to see them as man-made. Full of beautiful allegories and methaphors, many of these texts can and do guide mankind to live to its highest potential. Unfortunately, when taken literally, these texts can also destroy the very Divinity that Spirit has breathed into each one of us. I like Ban Breathnach's take on the subject. What if original sin is not living up to your full God-like potential. Changes the whole concept, doesn't it? Peace and blessings.
